Integrated Pest Management
Our approach
Redback Pest Control’s pest management approach is based on inspection, identification, treatment, reporting and prevention. Chemical application is only one part of the control program — everything else is designed to reduce risk, prevent recurrence and protect the people using the site. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is the methodology preferred by NSW Health, the NSW Food Authority and every Council procurement panel we work on, because it prioritises long-term risk reduction over one-off spraying.
Our approach
Every Redback program — home, strata, restaurant, warehouse or Council reserve — runs through the same five steps.
- 1. Inspection — thorough site inspection of activity, risk areas, conducive conditions and previous treatment history.
- 2. Identification — accurate identification of pest species, life stage, sources and contributing factors.
- 3. Treatment — targeted, low-risk treatments applied only where necessary and appropriate under the APVMA label.
- 4. Reporting — detailed reporting with findings, chemicals used, SDS, and recommendations for the client’s records.
- 5. Prevention — proofing, hygiene, monitoring and staff training to reduce recurrence and future chemical use.
Why IPM is the government & commercial standard
For food premises, aged care, schools, childcare, hospitals and Council-owned buildings, IPM is effectively mandatory. Auditors expect documented inspections, species ID, targeted treatment records and prevention actions — not a blanket spray. Redback’s reports are built to satisfy NSW Food Authority audits, HACCP third-party audits, WHS reviews and Council contract KPIs in the one document.
- Safer for staff, residents, students and the public
- Reduces chemical reliance and non-target exposure
- Addresses root causes: hygiene, proofing, storage, drainage
- Auditor-ready reporting for Food Authority, HACCP and WHS
- Cost-effective over the contract term — fewer call-backs

Frequently asked questions
Is IPM required for commercial pest control in NSW?
For food businesses, health facilities and most Council contracts, yes — auditors expect documented IPM, not one-off spraying. Redback’s reports are built to satisfy NSW Food Authority and HACCP audits.
Does IPM cost more than a normal spray?
Per-visit, IPM is comparable. Over a 12-month program it’s cheaper because call-backs, re-treatments and infestation escalations drop sharply once the root causes are fixed.
Can I get an IPM plan for my home?
Yes — the same five steps apply. We scope residential programs the same way as commercial, just at a home scale.
